Superb! The waitress recommended a great Russian beer, then we had the salmon and a hamburger. Both were perfectly cooked. The salad was fresh and the rice pilaf was the best I've ever had in a restaurant. Service was impeccable.

The only positive thing I can honestly say is the staff is friendly. We spent 80.00 and the food was less then satisfactory. I had prime rib and it was way overcooked and lacked flavor and wasn't prime rib more cut like a ribeye. My husband had the ribeye and that as well lacked flavor with poor grade beef. My fresh cut vegetables were not cooked and came out cold. The Alfredo pasta, recommended by the waitress, was too garlicky and pasta over cooked. The mash potatoes were mush. Disappointed in our choice for dinner!

Interesting beer selection, which was a nice intro. Nachos weren't bad for the appetizer either. Problem was the entrees were fairly average. 4 to our party and two of us had the French dip, which came recommended, but failed to impress. Ciabatta chicken was the third entree and was rated better then the French dips. Service was above average so we may give it one more try, but for now I give a comfortable 3 stars overall.

Great food! Beers were a little warm and service was ok, overall good place to eat. The steak was a little under cooked but delicious!

Great staff, steaks were good, nice selection on the menu, a little lacking in flavor but good.

I just moved to Hood River, so I'm going to check out every restaurant in town, starting with a big post-moving steak. The Mesquitery looks nice on the outside. It looks like one of those old steak houses that may hide a really good menu and great prices. Not so much, unfortunately. All you have to do is walk in the front door and you'll see what I mean. The place is pretty run down and connected to the bar next door (you can hear the people at the bar from the restaurant where there is an open connecting the two places.) It's a good meal- for a small town. The prices are big city, though. The overall meal (filet mignon, salad, potato) was "meh." It was OK, but for the price, too high to go back again. So, I've checked this place off the list. It's a one-timer. Now I need to find a place in town that has a really good steak....the search is on!

The best steak I've ever had in my life and the mashed potatoes were heavenly. The service was great. I loved everything about Mesquitery. I definitely recommend this place to everyone to try AT LEAST once.

I have to give this 5 Stars as it was amazing. We ate here on 7/24/15 for dinner. I had the Filet Mignon 10 oz with Mash Potatoes and Claim Chowder. My wife had the Rib Eye Steak 14 oz with a Fresh Garden Salad and Garlic Bread. I've uploaded pictures. I almost ate the entire Claim Chowder before I remembered to take a picture. Very good flavor and huge pieces of claim. The Filet Mignon was an odd shape but it was the best steak I have ever eaten. I had it cooked Medium. I was cutting into it and it fell apart on my fork. The Mesquite taste and grill marks really make this one amazing piece of meat. The Mash Potatoes were really good as well. No potato chunks. Really mashed up well with a mushroom gravy. My wife's Rib Eye was medium and was just perfect for her. Just enough pink in the center like medium should be. The garden salad was really fresh and her garlic bread with cheese was almost not eaten by her. I tasted it and almost took it off her plate. Very delicious. The price is high, but well worth it. The only con to this was the smell of whatever they clean the tables with. It takes a bit to air out. The food more than made up for that small inconvenience.

This place is like going into a time warp with the decor on the inside. Its a definite joint. The menu has great options from steak to seafood to pasta and a polish beer menu above all. Its not a steak house but the steaks are delicious. Wife had some seafood it was well seasoned and fresh. The soups were home made totally enjoyable. Dont really know where the other reviews have eaten but this place is off the beaten path in the regular part of town not the tourist part. Having eaten in all the other over priced tourist spots in town with small portions and high prices this place blows them away. I dont give five stars do the simple reason my meal had a jalapeno hidden in the middle of it. It was a couple minutes to recover. Over all the recipes are influenced by the Spanish cooks. There is a little heat in everything.

Wonderful! I had the fish (snapper) taco and it was delicious. My husband enjoyed his snapper sandwich. A great find!

A great local place for great steaks and seafood! Do not miss out on the Swedish Cream for dessert! We live right around the corner and it is a weekly stop for us.

Best meal we've had the entire week we've been in The Gorge! We both had the Steak and Shrimp. Both were beyond excellent! The shrimp was wonderful and succulent. The steak was so thick and grilled to perfection. I don't know what kind of magic seasoning they use but it is unmatched for flavor. The service was super fast and very entertaining. I'm salivating now just writing about it!!! Go here NOW!!!

We had a baked potato which was great. We also had the nachos terrible I am sure they had been sitting for a while cold cheese melted on bottom of plate a mound of ice cold beans. We asked the waitress for salsa which was good but we just dipped our chips like at a Mexican rest. Left most of it. The waitress was very good but not much she could do. My suggestion take nachos off the menu.thank you

Stopped by after not being there for a while and wondered why I hadn't gone back sooner. Had some extremely fresh Halibut with Parmesan Cheese Sauce and it was amazing. Grilled just right, very tender and moist. Tried the bread pudding for dessert and loved it. not too often you find that on a menu and when I do I jump on it. Very good and I think made with Challah bread. Very good service too! definitely recommend.

A fantastic little spot with an eclectic menu. We had steak, ribs, fettucini alfredo, chips & salsa. All of it was homemade, fresh and delish! Service was friendly. I highly recommend!

My husband and I were in hood river for one night and after a lovely day at the park all we really wanted was a "steak and potatoes" dinner. We asked the staff at our hotel, we looked online, but most restaurants in this area have "a little bit of everything" on it. Is it so bad to just want a steak and a baked potato! We found this place and the staff was super friendly, and very attentive. For as many options of steak they have, the prices could not have been better. Both our steaks were a perfect medium rare, and the potatoes were deliciois! Over all a great experience and exactly what we were looking for:)

Hi

I just tried these guys out and love this place! They serve a great mesquite smoked steak that is juicy and not overly fatty. Their Caesar is made from scratch. The service is great! This is my new go to place for steak!

One of the best Prime ribs steaks I have ever had I can't believe the star level was low and their egg sister breakfast place is amazing.

Wasn't sure where to eat when staying in Hood River so started reading online reviews. Glad we came across the Mesquitery. The food was great and the portions quite generous. A steak prepared the way a steak should be prepared. I read a previous review about someone who drove two hours from Portland for one of their steaks and now I understand why.

So, the staff here is very friendly. The food is OK-- it's just not "right." The BBQ Beef Sandwich, for instance, is a hoagie roll with Arby's-style roast beef slices and some thinned-out BBQ sauce. The cole-slaw is great, though, and putting it on the sandwich makes it mediocre.

I have come here with a small group and have enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. The place has the feel of wood, hence the mewquitery smell. I have had a good experience and think that the food is delicous.

From the moment the waitress told us the only white wine available was Merlot, we knew we were in trouble. The $9.50 hamburger my wife ordered arrived not medium-rare, as she requested, but thoroughly cooked through. But considering the burger patty was as flat and thin as a pancake, there was no room left for subtleties. From the look of it, the meat looked like what you'd get from the frozen food department of the supermarket. Or maybe the basic burger from McDonalds. My $16.95 Pollo Vaquero ("diced, hot, mesquite broiled chicken breast, specially seasoned, served with cheese, pico de gallo and warm flour tortillas to roll your own") was so unappealing that I couldn't bare to touch it. The cubed chicken was dry, the rice was dry, the steamed vegetables were tasteless and the pico de gallo (measured out, like the rice, in the kitchen using an inverted coffee cup) looked like it, too, was from the supermarket. If this was supposed to be their version of fajitas, they missed by a country mile. My family has been in the restaurant business for over 40 years (I've managed several) and the ingredients couldn't have cost more than $2.50. With a 30% food cost, that's maybe $8.00. The Mesquitery charges $16.95? Ridiculous. Never again. We plopped some cash on the table and left. Went to the Sixth Street Bistro, my had a half-pound burger grilled to perfection ($10) and I had a pork chop special to die for. And the waiter not only knew Merlot was a red wine but knew the name of the winery that bottled it.

We come here 2-3 times a month during the summer and have coming back for 10 years. They serve my favorite meal ever. Clam chowder, I think it is the best I have ever had. The filet and salmon are our favorite dinners with the Alfredo pasta and baked beans for sides. Prices are reasonable.

It's just like food that your momma used to make for you! Except it costs a stoopid amount of money, is served to you cold and has waaaaay to much garlic in it.
(2)Will W.
Overpriced. Lack of choice in menu and made my stomach hurt after. Paying to get sick is not good. Booths were filthy and my wife sat down in Chocolate cake mess, which ruined her jeans.
